Technical experience behind the assessment.

Clive Simms, Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Meta Defence Labs

Clive helps business leaders make informed security decisions, balancing risk with operational demands and commercial priorities. As co-founder of Meta Defence Labs, he combines more than 30 years of infrastructure and cybersecurity experience with the perspective of someone who runs a business himself.

His experience includes more than a decade supporting KPMG, where he played a key architectural role in a multi-million-pound infrastructure programme for its Forensic Technology Services. Working with Partners and senior stakeholders, he helped shape a secure, resilient platform built to support demanding business operations.

Today, Clive leads Meta Defence Labs’ Cyber Essentials Plus assurance for large and enterprise clients. He works with leadership and technical teams to establish where risks lie, challenge whether controls are effective and prioritise practical improvements. His approach connects detailed technical findings with the decisions leaders need to make about investment, business continuity and security.

A CISSP, Lead Cyber Essentials Plus Assessor and certified penetration tester, Clive remains directly involved in complex client engagements. His assessment track record includes more than 300 Cyber Essentials passes and over 100 Cyber Essentials Plus passes.

Clive also invests in the profession’s next generation. He co-founded SHe CISO Exec., supporting inclusive cybersecurity leadership, and is a founding member and former Treasurer of the (ISC)² London Chapter.
