Five Years of Cyber Essentials Certification Continuity

A long-standing global travel management organisation requiring timely Cyber Essentials certification to support UK Government contractual requirements.

Five consecutive annual Cyber Essentials renewal cycles completed on schedule through a structured assurance approach focused on scope, controls, evidence and early remediation.

Situation

Cyber Essentials certification is commercially important to this global travel management organisation because it supports UK Government contractual requirements. MDLabs has supported the organisation's Cyber Essentials certification for five consecutive years.

The requirement is not simply to achieve certification once. The organisation needs a dependable annual renewal cycle that maintains certification continuity as its technology estate and the Cyber Essentials requirements evolve.

Challenge and complexity

The organisation's environment changes continuously. Devices and services are introduced, hardware and software change, people join and leave, security configurations evolve and products reach end of support.

Each year the scope must therefore be revalidated against the current environment and current Cyber Essentials requirements. With certification linked to contractual requirements, renewal timing is also critical and a lapse would create unnecessary commercial and compliance risk.

MDLabs approach

MDLabs works with the organisation ahead of each renewal date rather than waiting for a completed assessment to arrive.

Each annual cycle includes reviewing the certification scope and changes since the previous assessment, validating the technology represented in scope, reviewing implementation of the Cyber Essentials controls, identifying areas requiring clarification or remediation, explaining scheme changes, checking appropriate evidence and resolving issues before the certification deadline.

Once the assessment requirements are satisfied, MDLabs can approve the Cyber Essentials assessment and issue certification as the Certification Body.

Outcome

The organisation has successfully maintained Cyber Essentials certification for five consecutive years within the required renewal timeframe, supporting continued compliance with its UK Government contractual requirements.

The wider value is the predictable assurance programme behind those certificates: accurate scope, correctly implemented controls, appropriate evidence and enough preparation time to address issues before they threaten certification continuity.

"Meta Defence Labs supported our organisation through a structured assurance engagement that required close alignment with governance, risk, and compliance expectations. The engagement was managed in a controlled and methodical manner, with clear direction provided at each stage. Chani, Nisa, and Clive demonstrated strong understanding of both technical controls and assurance requirements, enabling effective decision-making and timely progression of activities. Their approach reduced ambiguity, supported internal stakeholders, and ensured deliverables met agreed scope and expectations. The confidence and assurance they provided across technical and executive stakeholders is the primary reason we would readily engage Meta Defence Labs again."
